I think Maggie Gyllenhaal might get a Best Supporting Actress nom for "World Trade Center".

...don't ask me why.
thoughts?

The Academy always falls for the suffering wife character, so if Maggie (no matter how small her role) gets an Oscar-y scene here or there a la Michelle Williams last year, it could happen. But she also has to contend with Maria Bello, who may get consolation votes for being snubbed last year.

I think United 93 is going to fare better overall in terms of awardage.

It's been said before and I'll say it again : AMPAS inexplicably hates Maria Bello. I'm almost positive she won't be nominated this year, leaving Maggie a clearer shot at nabbing her first nod.

I have no idea why they have the hate for Bello. I just watched "The Sisters", a small film released in April and inexplicably released in June without fanfare, and while it does lean to grotesque melodrama by the end, it has a beautiful biting wit and a cast to die for. She's the centerpiece of the whole orchestra, and she is DAZZLING.

I just saw the TV spot for WTC and thought... "They're really showing Maggie off here. Are we going for an Oscar nom, boys?"
Quite possible. Seems most bloggers are now predicting her for a nom for BSA. Either her or Bello, doesn't matter to me. Both have deserved mentions in the past and got snubbed.

you know, i'm surprised more people haven't at least mentioned the possibility of her receiving a nomination.

yeah, i agree. she was good, but the role just wasn't enough to warrent consideration.
and maria bello just felt like she was giving her best edie-falco impersonation. those contacts distracted the hell out of me.
